Surviving the Transition VCA Workshop

  • Victorian College of the Arts 234 Saint Kilda Road Southbank, VIC, 3006 Australia (map)

There’s nothing worse than that uncertain feeling of how your life and arts practice are going to change once outside the institution, especially when your student payments get cut off. I get it. I’ve been there. What do I do? I’m Marie and I’m all about getting your mind clear on where it is you’re headed and giving you the best chance for success.

I’ve created a three-part, strategy-packed workshop intensive for VCA Fine Arts and Music students just like you. Together we’ll tackle your fears of transitioning from the university system into a world that doesn’t immediately offer you security and validation. The workshop space will not include any corporate language, and I certainly won’t be trying to encourage you to compromise your work to make a profit.

Why choose me?

Because I am an artist myself who graduated from VCA in 2009. I’ve been through the transition you are facing and although it wasn’t a smooth one, I came out the other side. I want to empower you with the clarity of direction and focus that I wish someone helped me to gain when I woke up on the other side of a visual arts degree. The sudden disconnection, financial insecurity and lack of validation took a toll on my confidence and momentum. I worked my way back up though and since then I founded two artist-run spaces, have been involved in numerous art projects and now consult with many artists and creative businesses. I help artists and creatives feel motivated by their direction, empowered by their clarity and in control of their practices.

These workshop sessions will be a space where we’ll tackle exactly what you can do to feel secure in your practice despite the changes. I want you to feel confident in where you’re headed and feel empowered for the future.

In this workshop we’ll cover

·      Session 1: Planning with Purpose,

·      Session 2: Safety in the Number$,

·      Session 3: The Market in Marketing.

During these sessions, I’ll teach you how to feel empowered by each decision you make in your practice instead of feeling unsure. By the end, you’ll easily have defined a financial goal that gives you security and direction. I’ll assist you in defining who your work is for and how to purposefully connect with them in an authentic and valuable way, without the awful sell. You’ll walk away feeling optimistic about your practice and ready to survive the transition.

This workshop isn’t your usual ‘listen to me talk at you’ scenario. It’s kept intimate for a reason. I want you to be involved in the conversation. Let’s discuss creative and relevant strategies, and brainstorm tools and tips that will suit your specific practice and your specific situation. To ensure this level of intimacy the numbers are limited so head over to reserve your free ticket!
